In the ongoing battle against COVID-19, the focus is now on children.
A mysterious illness that is potentially related to COVID-19 has been hitting children around the world, especially in Europe and North America.
Kim Sung-min reports.
Countries, especially in Europe and North America, have been increasingly reporting a mysterious illness among children that is possibly linked to COVID-19.
In response, the World Health Organization has sent an alert to world clinicians and leaders.
"I call on all clinicians worldwide to work with your national authorities and W.H.O. to be on the alert and better understand this syndrome in children."
The syndrome is known to present symptoms including high fever, skin rash and toxic shock.
The Director-General added that the initial reports suggest that the syndrome is potentially related to COVID-19.
A similar interpretation came from a doctor who treated a child in France who died due to the syndrome.
"For now, we scientists who are studying this, are assuming the virus has a link with COVID-19. From many of these patients, we find either a positive for PCR test (indicating COVID-19 infection), or positive antibodies, but not in all cases."
It was the first case of death from the syndrome in France, and the second in Europe...following the United Kingdom.
Over in the United States, New York has been reporting the largest number of cases.
The state's Governor issued a warning for the rest of the country after seeing more than 100 cases and 3 deaths from the illness.
