A hyena tried to stray into Mandawar village near Sohana in Northern India looking for food and got stuck in fishing net surrounding a farm.

The helpless animal was spotted on the morning of May 12 and local villagers alerted wildlife activist Anil Gandass of Environment and Wildlife Society. He and a team of forest officials rushed to the spot and rescued the animal after sedating it.

Anil said: “The poor animal was tightly enmeshed in the metal wires. As it had struggled to escape, the wires had cut into its stomach, face and shoulders. I am happy we were able to rescue it on time.”

Forest officials said they would take the animal with them and treat its wounds. It would be released back in the forest after it recovers, they said.
