00:00The Jack Benny Program, presented by Lucky Strike.

00:10Thank you, thank you very much ladies and gentlemen.

00:26You know, for a fellow who has to appear in front of an audience today,

00:31I must say that I did a very foolish thing last night.

00:36Well, I met a beautiful girl and I just couldn't resist going out with her.

00:41Well, we had dinner together and we went dancing and then I took her for a drive in my car

00:47and we finally got to a lonely road and wouldn't you know, I got a flat tire.

00:54You gotta be awfully strong and have pretty good muscles to yank a wheel off the car

01:01and to force a tire off the rim.

01:04It was such a dark night, if I hadn't had my flashlight, she never could have done it.

01:13Of course, I only met her last night and I never dreamed that she was a mechanic.

01:18I thought that the monkey wrench that was hanging from her wrist was on a charm bracelet.

01:29She got the tire fixed and we had a wonderful evening and I didn't get home till about 2.30.

01:36Of course, I didn't want to wake up Rochester so I took off my shoes and I tiptoed up the steps

01:41and I didn't even turn on the lights and I went right to bed.

01:45And boy, what a miserable night I had.

01:48When I woke up this morning, I found out that Rochester had rearranged the furniture

01:52and I was sleeping on the table.

01:55And there's nothing more uncomfortable than using the bust of Beethoven for a pillow.

02:07But even though I'm a little tired now, tomorrow I'll be alright because I'm always relaxed,

02:13I always feel fine the day after a show.

02:16As a matter of fact, every day after a show, that's when Rochester and I sort of relax

02:20and lounge around on the patio at home.

02:33Rochester, why did you stop rocking?

02:36I'm sorry boss, I got interested in this book.

02:39Why is it exciting?

02:41I don't care if it is exciting, rock me some more.

02:43Yes.

03:02Rochester, there's a fly on me, fan it away.

03:05Yes.

03:11Yes.

03:17Did you finish churning the butter?

03:19Not yet.

03:20Well churn it, churn it.

03:22Yes.

03:31How about the ice cream, did you finish that?

03:33I haven't even started yet.

03:35Well start it, start it.

03:37I will, I will.

03:41Yes.

03:57Why don't you answer the phone?

04:02It might be a quiz program and I'd hate to be more listened to than I already was.

04:08Are you ready to answer the phone?

04:10Yes.

04:14Hello?

04:16Yes.

04:18Fine, fine.

04:21Goodbye.

04:23Who was it?

04:24A man down the street, he wants a pound of butter and two quarts of ice cream.

04:29You see, you see Rochester, I just thought of it this morning.

04:32And already we got an order for a pound of butter and two quarts of ice cream.

04:36You thought my little scheme wouldn't work.

04:38I didn't say it wouldn't work.

04:39I said it wasn't fair to put our phone number on the back of that coronation mail truck.

04:45Well business is business.

04:47Now rock me some more.

04:49Yes.

05:09Rochester.

05:34Rochester, why did you stop it so fast?

05:37Just a minute, boss.

05:38I'll get a ladder and help me down.

05:45There you are.

05:47Answer the phone, it might be another order.

05:50I'll get that by myself.

05:51Yes.

05:56Hello?

05:57Mr. Benny's Residence stars stage, screen, radio, television and now rehearsing for Tarzan the Apes.

06:04Oh, oh hello Miss Livingston.

06:06Yes, he's here.

06:08Just a minute, I'll call him.

06:10It's for you boss, it's Miss Livingston.

06:12Oh, okay.

06:18Hello Mary.

06:20This afternoon?

06:22No, I'm busy.

06:24I got a golf date with Bing Crosby and George Burns.

06:28What are your plans for tonight?

06:31I haven't any.

06:33Would you like to see a movie?

06:36Okay, so would I.

06:38No, no, don't come here.

06:40I'll come over to your house.

06:42Your television screen is much bigger.

06:48Mary.

06:55I don't know what she's mad about.

06:58Hi Jack.

06:59What's going on Jeffrey?

07:01Yeah, hello darling.

07:02Oh gee, what a lovely day.

07:04Yeah, isn't it?

07:05Would you like some ice cream?

07:07No, no thanks Jack.

07:08How about a pound of butter?

07:11Rochester, stop pushing the butter.

07:13We haven't got enough to fill the phone orders.

07:15Jack, do you mind if I stretch out here in your hammock?

07:18No, no, go right ahead Don.

07:20Now Rochester, incidentally, here's what I'd like to have you drink.

07:30Rochester, come on.

07:32Stop.

07:36Oh.

07:40Jack, I'm terribly sorry if I broke your hammock.

07:43Who cares about the hammock?

07:44Look what you did to the flagstone.

07:48Gosh, what a mess.

07:50That's all right Mr. Wilson, I'll get a broom and clean it right up.

07:53Now look Don, I know you didn't come here to relax,

07:55so tell me, what's on your mind?

07:57Well Jack, I just wanted to find out if you'd signed Bing Crosby and George Burns

08:00to be guest stars on your television show.

08:02Oh, not yet Don, but you see I'm playing golf today with Bing and George

08:06and I'll talk to them about it then.

08:08You know, many, many years ago,

08:10Bing and George and I used to do a vaudeville act together.

08:13Oh, years ago, we were known as Goldie, Fields and Glide.

08:17That was our names then in vaudeville, you see.

08:19And I'd like to do that same act now in television.

08:22The three of you used to do an act together?

08:24That's right, that's right.

08:26Jack, you're kidding.

08:27No, no, I'm not.

08:28Wait a minute.

08:29Oh Rochester.

08:30Yes boss?

08:32Bring my scrapbook, you'll find it in the dress drawer.

08:35Yes sir.

08:36Ah, those were the days.

08:38You know, when Bing, George and I,

08:40when we were known as Goldie, Fields and Glide,

08:42we used to play towns like Burning Stump, Iowa,

08:46and Stagnant Water, Nebraska.

08:48We even played on an Indian reservation.

08:51The three of you really played an Indian reservation?

08:54That's right, Geronimo, New Mexico.

08:57Here's your scrapbook, boss.

08:59Oh, thanks. Thanks, Rochester.

09:01You know, Don, this is the first scrapbook I've ever had.

09:04You know, and I wanted you to see this thing here.

09:06Oh, here.

09:07Now here, this was our whole show.

09:09The show that we were with.

09:11Now there was the animal trainer, there's the juggler,

09:14there's Bing Crosby, there's George Burns.

09:17Easy to pick you out, Jack.

09:18There's an arrow pointing to you.

09:20It ain't pointing to him, it's in him.

09:22That's when they played the Indian reservation.

09:24Now, Don, look, here's what I really wanted you to see.

09:27Now, wait a minute.

09:28I got it right over here.

09:30There it is.

09:31There's our act.

09:32Goldie, Fields and Glide.

09:34You see?

09:35Now, Bing Crosby was Goldie,

09:37George Burns was Fields, and I was Glide.

09:40That was our act, Goldie, Fields and Glide.

09:42And I'll never forget when we played in Scranton, Pennsylvania.

09:46Gee, what a tough time we had following the Victoria Girls.
