President Moon Jae-in is calling for the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention -- which has been South Korea's COVID-19 control tower -- to be swiftly upgraded to the Disease Control and Prevention Administration.
At a Cabinet meeting Tuesday,... he called for lawmakers' cooperation to carry out the restructuring -- stressing it was the pledge of the rival parties.
The president said South Korea must not lose the opportunity and should not hesitate in front of crisis -- as the country prepares for a second wave of COVID-19.
President Moon also ordered the government to begin talks on a third extra budget -- that will be used to minimize fallout for workers and revitalize the economy.
He also called for rival parties to pass the most urgent bills before the 20th National Assembly ends this month.
