Twelve of the 18 new COVID-19 cases are from here in Seoul. A man who visited five clubs in Seoul over the holiday weekend is found to have spread the virus to at least 19 people so far.
Hong Yoo has the details.
The man visited five different clubs in Itaewon that Friday night, and those clubs were visited by more than one-thousand-five-hundred people.
The government is having trouble tracking down all these people because many of them are foreigners and it is concerned that there could be more cases coming from this transmission.
"We have announced the time the patient visited clubs King, Trunk, and Queen in the early hours of May 2nd. We ask those that could have been at those locations at that time to please stay home and refrain from going to work or going outside."
Health authorities also advise people who were out in Itaewon during those hours and who are experiencing symptoms of COVID-19 to get tested for the virus.
The first patient in this local transmission was not wearing a mask inside clubs and the time of his visit comes when his virus transmission level was high.
The government emphasized that this transmission at entertainment facilities is a case that alerts people about what can happen if they do not stick to disease prevention measures.
The government has also put an administrative order banning nightclubs across the country from opening for business for one month starting from 8 PM Friday.
