Pres. Moon Jae-in orders economic team to draw up creative special COVID-19 measures

President Moon Jae-in has ordered his economic team to come up with creative measures to swiftly overcome the COVID-19 economic crisis.
The government will create a central disaster management headquarters for the economy headed by the finance minister.
Kim Min-ji leads us off.
President Moon Jae-in has called on the government to make preparations for an economic headquarters with all related ministries...to beef up the response against COVID-19.
In a meeting with his top aides on Monday,... the president said that the causalities and socioeconomic damage from the pandemic could be likened to that of a third world war.
He called for creative and special measures to ease the burden.
I ask for the swift creation of a system to overcome the crisis by uniting pan-ministry capacity to manage risks, protect jobs and help companies until the economic crisis is over. We need creative and special measures to ease the burden on people and shorten the time it takes to to overcome the crisis.
Moon said that South Korea can be the country that overcomes the crisis the fastest through solidarity and cooperation.
He also hopes that the country can become the global standard in quarantine and economic measures.
While the president noted that there are fewer new cases of COVID-19,... he said it's too early for people to let their guard down calling for cooperation in practicing social distancing.
He added that the results of last week's general election reflect people's desire to come together and overcome the crisis.
First and second is to overcome the national crisis. We must protect people's lives and revive the economy, then we will move on to what's next. I believe the general election results reflect the people's will to combine their strength and overcome the crisis.
President Moon also asked for cooperation from the National Assembly to help the country get through the situation,... while pledging to listen to the opposition parties.
The president's remarks come as the government is set to roll out further stimulus measures, this time to prop up the ailing job market,.... while the National Assembly also has to deliberate the government's multi-billion dollar extra budget bill.
