S. Korea orders measures to prevent spread of foot-and-mouth disease
  • 5 years ago
Responding to the outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease, the South Korean government is calling for stringent countermeasures to prevent it spreading ahead of the Lunar New Year holiday.
Holding an emergency meeting at the government complex in Seoul on Tuesday, Prime Minister Lee Nak-yon said preventative measures must be bold and swift to an extent they could be seen as too excessive.
He called for early action as there will be a mass movement of people and resources during the holiday, …which runs from February 4th to 6th.
The prime minister called for the vaccination of all pigs, goats and deer at farms near Anseong and culling -- where necessary -- to prevent further spread of the disease.
The agriculture ministry says it has found no further cases within 500 meters of the latest case.
