At a ceremony to open the legal year in Hong Kong, the city’s chief justice promised he would continue to uphold judicial independence. Chief Justice Geoffrey Ma Tao-li also said a task force has been set up to study how Hong Kong’s courts can cope with the increased volume of cases brought about by the ongoing social unrest.
