In a major reform in the mining sector, the cabinet has approved an ordinance that allows commercial coal mining by all private companies. So far, government controlled Coal India has had a major control over coal mining in India. But this is set to change with the amendment to Coal Mines Nationalisation Act. The decision will help in increasing coal production thereby reducing India's coal imports. To discuss the amendments CNBC-TV18 spoke to Coal Secretary Anil Kumar Jain.
