Our top story today, the defense chiefs of South Korea, the U.S. and Japan will meet in Thailand on Sunday to discuss the imminent termination of Seoul's military intel-sharing pact with Tokyo.
A source from Seoul's defense ministry said Saturday that Defense Minister Jeong Kyeong-doo will fly to Bangkok later in the day for talks with his Japanese counterpart Taro Kono, as well as trilateral talks with U.S. Secretary of Defense Mark Esper.
Topping the agenda will be Seoul's decision to end the GSOMIA pact, which is due to expire on November 23rd.
Washington and Tokyo want to maintain the pact, but Seoul has reiterated it will only reconsider if Japan first retracts its export restrictions on South Korea.
The meetings come on the sidelines of the 6th ASEAN Defense Ministers' Meeting-Plus which will be held through Monday.
