Turning our attention back to the much anticipated ASEAN-KOREA Summit.
The host city decided, one great way to learn more about the participating nations is by sampling their unique delicacies.
Lee Kyung-eun turns the spotlight to this gastronomic event.
"Here at Nolimaru, you can eat your way through 10 ASEAN countries in one spot.
You don’t have to fly to each country, all you need is a train ticket to Busan".
The ASEAN-KOREA Food Street event kicked off on Friday. Local restaurants from countries like Brunei, Myanmar, Singapore,...and Korea,…opened pop-up stores to offer their authentic cuisine.
Busan has organized the culinary event, hoping for the successful hosting of the upcoming ASEAN-ROK Commemorative Summit.
"We hope this event can help make the summit not just an event for heads of state to meet, but also a means for people of all participating nations to know each other better."
And the host, Busan, is the perfect venue for an event of this kind, as the city is renowned for its extensive experience offering local and international delicacies, including staple and iconic street foods.
From Brunei's chicken rice and Myanmar's spicy vegetable noodles...
to Cambodia's marinated beef Lok Lak, Vietnam's pho,... and Laos' lemongrass beef jerky
And of course, Thai food
But the famous fried noodle Pad Thai here at Savoey is like no other, given its 4 decades of tradition.
"Main ingredient I make it in Thailand and bring it in Korea."
The ASEAN street food event is a chance for local residents to try and enjoy unique flavors from other countries, but they say it's more than that.
"I feel closer and more connected to these countries. Before, I vaguely knew about them, but now I have a better picture of them."
"For those who haven't been to these countries, this is a great opportunity to try a wide variety of dishes made by chefs from each respective country."
Meanwhile, Korean food truck owners are also taking part in the event, bringing their unique creations made with Korean and ASEAN elements, such as Indonesia's fried noodles mi goreng topped with Korean marinated beef bulgogi.
The event also includes musical concerts and even a super market until November 27.
While the summit is a chance for heads of state to boost diplomatic and economic ties, events like the ASEAN-KOREA Food Street are also serving as a platform for Asian cultures to come together as one.
