The nation's fertility rate declined for the 40th consecutive month in July.
According to Statistics Korea, the number of newborns fell over six percent on-year to 25-thousand in July.
That's the lowest figure for that month since the data was first compiled in 1981.
The number of newborns has been continuously falling since April 2016... as fewer people are getting married.
If this trend continues, the total number of newborns could fall below 300-thousand for the first time this year.
