New data put into perspective the scale of Korea's demographic challenge.
According to Statistics Korea, the number of deaths will surpass the number of births in most parts of the nation by 2042.
Over the next 30 years, Korea's working age population, which refers to people aged between 15 and 65,... will drop by 12 million.
And by 2047, the data show that people 65 or older will make up more than 35 percent of the population in all 16 cities and provinces of the country except for the newly developed Sejong city.
