Global number of COVID-19 cases surpasses 5 million; deaths rise to 325,000

As some countries begin easing strict distancing guidelines and look to reopen their economies, reported COVID-19 cases around the world topped five million on this Thursday.
According to data from Johns Hopkins University, the global death toll now stands at over 328-thousand.
Though several countries in Asia and Europe seem to have reached the peak of their outbreaks, countries in Central and South America are seeing theirs get worse.
Brazil has had the second highest daily number of new cases next to the U.S.
The WHO said Wednesday the number of newly reported COVID-19 cases worldwide hit a daily record this week with more than 100-thousand new cases over the last 24 hours.
