Meet first openly gay male college basketball player
  • 5 years ago
It’s another milestone for gay athletes in organized sports as University of Massachusetts guard Derrick Gordon became the first openly gay men’s college basketball player. Gordon’s breakthrough comes after similar declarations from active athletes, including NFL draft prospect Michael Sam, NBA player Jason Collins, and WNBA player Brittney Griner. In the wake of the announcement, Gordon said it’s the happiest he’s been in his life. In an interview with ESPN, Gordon said he thought the off-season was the best time to reveal his sexuality. He made the decision after the University of Massachusetts was knocked out of the NCAA tournament. -- Mornings @ ANC, April 10, 2014.
