MANILA, Philippines – In boxing, Orlando Cruz is ready to make history on Saturday night when he will become the first openly gay boxer to fight for a world title. The 32-year-old took to the stage for the final news conference ahead of his showdown with Orlando “Siri” Salido. Cruz grabbed headlines in October 2012 when he announced he was gay. The Puerto Rican will be fighting on the undercard of the Timothy Bradley-Juan Manuel Marquez showdown for the vacant WBO featherweight title. If he is victorious, he would be the first openly gay boxer to hold a major world championship. Mornings @ ANC, October 11, 2013
