MANILA - Several media groups are taking to the streets to protest the Supreme Court's decision on the libel provision of the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012. The protesters said the High Court's decision declaring online libel constitutional is an attack on freedom of speech, another right protected by the Constitution itself. The demonstration dubbed "Black Tuesday" will be held on the anniversary of the People Power uprising on the 25th of this month. The protest will be held at 3 in the afternoon at the EDSA Shrine, site of the first People Power uprising that toppled the Marcos dictatorship 28 years ago. Several groups have also started a social media campaign to call on Netizens to fight the libel provision. "Gawin nating itim yung ating mga Facebook, Twitter. Mahalaga ang ating right to expression. Sana mapagtanggol ng Korte Suprema," said blogger Tonyo Cruz. Aside from the protests, some groups are also set to file an appeal with the Supreme Court. MORNINGS@ANC, February 24, 2014
