Phivolcs- No tsunami after 5.7-magnitude quake
  • 5 years ago
A magnitude 5.7 earthquake struck off Davao Oriental province on Wednesday morning but it is not strong enough to trigger a tsunami, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said. The quake's magnitude was initially measured by Phivolcs at 5.2. Speaking to ANC, Phivolcs executive director Renato Solidum said a movement in either the Philippine Fault Zone or the Philippine Trench may have triggered the quake. He noted that today's quake is not related to the magnitude 7.2 quake that struck Bohol last October 15, and no tsunami alert has been raised so far. "These are different earthquake generators from Bohol," Solidum said. "The magnitude of the quake is not very so large it is not enough to trigger any tsunami." - ANC Headstart, 4 December 2013
