South Korea and Japan met again over the weekend on the sidelines of the meeting of the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership, or RCEP, in Indonesia.
South Korea's trade ministry announced Monday that its deputy minister for trade negotiations, Yeo Han-koo, met with Japan's Deputy Assistant Minister for Southeast and Southwest Asian Affairs Department, Yasuhiko Yoshida.
There, Yeo reportedly urged Japan to lift its trade restrictions on Seoul, saying they could seriously harm the regional supply chain.
He said the trade curbs are unilateral, groundless, a violation of the principle of free trade and the spirit of RCEP.
At the RCEP meeting, Yeo stressed the need for a transparent system of free trade as the region works toward a free trade agreement.
