July Was Officially the Hottest Month on Record The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) announced that global temperature averaged 62.13º during the month. That temperature is 1.71º higher than the average of the 20th century. It was 415th consecutive month in which global temperatures were above average. The areas with the most unusually warm temperatures included central Europe, parts of Australia, Africa and Alaska. Antarctic and Arctic sea ice are currently at historic lows. Of the hottest ten Julys on record, nine have happened since 2005. 2019 is tied with 2017 as the second hottest year to date.
