"무더운 여름철, 제철과일로 건강챙겨요"

Time now for our "Life & Info" segment,... where we focus on information useful for your everyday life.
Today, we are going to talk about 'three fruits' you can enjoy to stay healthy throughout the summer,... when we are more likely to suffer from dehydration or heat-related illnesses among many other nasty ailments.
We have our health reporter Choi Si-young in the studio to tell us more.
So Si-young, we all know eating fruit is healthy long-term, but I didn't know they had immediate medical effects.
Well,... Mark.
That's true. Fruits do not cure diseases. But they do boost our immune systems and make us less prone to illnesses because they are rich in vitamins and minerals.
Now,... we commonly use these two terms interchangeably, but they are different.
First vitamins come from plants and animals while minerals come from water, rocks and soil.
And vitamins are destroyed when exposed to heat or chemical agents whereas minerals are not.
Most importantly, vitamins are necessary for our body to function properly, but not all minerals are needed for nutrition.
Ok then, what kind of fruits we can add in our diet to stay healthier during the summer.
The first fruit is watermelon.
They are rich in vitamins A, C, potassium and magnesium.
But more importantly,... they are 92-percent water which means they keep you hydrated.
So eating watermelon is helpful during intense heatwaves.
In addition, watermelon has other health benefits such as helping to relieve muscle soreness, lower inflammation and it even improves heart health.
So regularly eating watermelon is good for your health.
I eat watermelon from time to time, especially during the summer, but after hearing that.... I might up my intake. What else have you got?
During summer it's also harder to get to sleep in Korea because the temperature is still high at night.
But bananas could be one way of stopping you tossing and turning in bed for hours on end.
Bananas are rich in 'tryptophan.' This is a type of amino acid that helps you fall asleep more easily. Bananas are almost fat-free too, so if you're working out this should be your fruit of choice.
Bananas have other health benefits, too. They help reduce muscle soreness and cramps and reduce the risk of heart disease.
Well, I learn something new everyday. I wasn't aware eating a banana or two could help you sleep better. Might try that. And what's the final fruit you are introducing today?
That would be peaches.
Peaches are known to protect your skin.
As we know, prolonged exposure to sunlight can darken our skin.
And peaches help your body make less 'melanin' which is the compound that makes your skin darker in the sun.
And in South Korea, you can find peaches almost everywhere.
We even have local festivals just dedicated to peaches.
So if you're staying in Korea, why not give them a try?
Well, Si-young, I guess that will do it. Thank you for your report as always.
My pleasure.
