What is Parkinson's Disease?

More than 1 million Americans are living with Parkinson’s disease. It is the second most common neurodegenerative disease after the Alzheimer's and yet is not well-known. You're more likely to suffer from Parkinson's disease when you're 60 or older. It comes so slowly that you don't even notice it at first. Of what started as a little shake of the hand, over a period, can have an impact on how you walk, talk, and sleep. Parkinson's signs and symbols include tremor, slowed movement, rigid muscles, loss of automatic movements, speech changes, etc. In Parkinson's disease, certain nerve cells in the brain gradually break down or die, especially dopamine, which produces chemical messages. And when dopamine level's decrease, it leads to abnormal brain activity resulting in Parkinson's disease. There's no cure for Parkinson's disease, but one can get treatment and it always helps to have supportive people around us.
