What the nerds conceal is that they didn't understand the character Superman, let alone haven't seen/understand all four parts!
Penny could have argued that Superman had used his Super Breath to mitigate her fall.
Since this ability couldn't be seen in the first one, she could have impressed the nerds with her expertise!
Only the camera work would have been miserable and so one couldn't see it.

Or is there a version where you can see how Superman uses his Heat Vision to heat a railroad track to make it easier to mold and then cooled it with Super Breath?

Too bad that in reality she didn't watch the movie, or agreed to be undermined by the nerds.
The nerds themselves could have mentioned this possibility as "connoisseurs" of the character Superman.
Or that already in this part Superman's "Telekinesis Vision" was anticipated as was used in the fourth movie.
