Two teenage girls try and escape to New York.
A pair of feisty teenagers dream of escape from Canada to the bright lights of New York in writer- director Jasmin Mozaffari’s wonderful, energetic film, which bristles with energy and confidence (and echoes Andrea Arnold). Lou (Michaela Kurimsky) and Chantal (Karena Evans) have been saving money working as chambermaids. After Chantal’s ex abuses her, they plan revenge (cue debauchery and vandalism), but this threatens their plans. Firecrackers is a fast, frantic and impressive affair made by an all-women crew and well performed by a cast of unknowns.
