Essential Travel Itinerary: New Zealand
New Zealand might be more isolated from neighboring countries than most, but nature's been remarkably kind to this small archipelago and any enthusiastic traveller will want to explore it. However, most will start by exploring Auckland, particularly the lively nature of its waterfront and the Sky Tower, which offers spectacular multi-angled views. Around Auckland, it's easy to undertake hiking and rafting or sailboat excursions to explore the surroundings and the many nearby smaller islands. Mount Maunganui and Wai-O-Tapu geothermal springs are situated near the Auckland region, and offer pristine sandy beaches and colourful geothermal springs respectively. Lord of the Rings fans will never miss a trip to the Hobbiton movie set, but even if you don't fancy wearing quirky outfits, you'll enjoy its open green spaces and the simple but orderly architecture. Fiordland National Park is a UNESCO world heritage site which protects the country's native animal species and offers visitors a chance to explore the glaciers and fjords of the South Island. Queenstown may only be a city of 12,000 habitants but is loved for its high-adrenalin activities which range from paragliding, rock climbing and mountain biking as well as skiing in the Southern Alps.
