Former UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon who heads the new presidential committee on climate and air quality has called for parliamentary support to deal with fine dust pollution.
Meeting Friday with Hwang Gyo-ahn,... the chair of the main opposition Liberty Korea Party,... Ban said the fine dust issue should not be politicized and that parties should work together to solve it.
Ban said his plan is to first devise short-term measures this year after gathering opinions from both experts and the public.
Hwang called for more active cooperation with China, which has been pointed to as a key contributor.
Ban also sat down for talks with National Assembly Speaker Moon Hee-sang,... where he called for parliamentary efforts,... whether it be through legislation or budget allocation.
He met with the leadership of the ruling and minor opposition parties earlier this month.
