West Bengal Poll Violence: Election Commission curtails West Bengal campaigning
  • 5 years ago
In the wake of the unprecedented violence in West Bengal and the vandalisation of the statue of social reformer Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar, the election commission has cut short campaigning by 24 hours in the state. The EC has also shunted out several top babus of the Bengal administration sparking outrage from the TMC govt. Mamata has received an outpouring of support by opposition colleagues who have backed her govt and accused the EC of bias. These include the BSP and the congress. Electioneering in Bengal ends at 10 pm today. This is the first time in the history of elections in India that the poll panel has had to invoke article 324.
