'Game of Thrones' Author George R.R. Martin Addresses Book Rumors Rumors have surfaced that Martin completed the final two books in the series, but agreed not to release them until the end of the HBO show. The rumors were allegedly started by actor Ian McElhinney, who played Ser Barristan Selmy. George has already written Books 6 and 7, But he struck an agreement with the showrunners that he would not publish until the series has completed. In a new blog post, Martin slammed the reports that he's wrapped up publication. No, THE WINDS OF WINTER and A DREAM OF SPRING are not finished. It seems absurd to me that I need to state this. Martin goes on to write that showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss would have been "thrilled" with the books dropping. It boggles me that anyone would believe this story, even for an instant. It makes not a whit of sense. Why would I sit for years on completed novels?
