Bipartisan support necessary to handle urgent matters directly related to people's livelihoods: Moon
  • 5 years ago
President Moon Jae-in, speaking to his Cabinet on Tuesday in a bid to renew his flagship peace and reform drive,... ordered them to speed up the process of boosting the South Korean economy.
He said the administration's efforts to reform the economic sector should be translated into achievements,... and he called on his ministers to accelerate the realization of those outcomes.
Carrying out such administrative affairs,... the president again called for bipartisan support from the National Assembly.
"More than anything, the passage of the government-led supplementary budget bill is an urgent matter. An extra budget is necessary to cope with natural disasters and fine dust issues, as well as driving up consumption. This is a budget that will directly improve the livelihoods of the people."
The president again called for a meeting with the leaders of the five rival political parties.
He hopes to reach a compromise over contentious issues like the provision of food aid to North Korea and domestic economy-related agendas.
He said they can discuss the most pressing issues,... as long as the main opposition Liberty Korea Party agrees,... sending a direct message to the only political party that has strongly opposed such a meeting.
