Newly-released figures show sluggish growth in South Korea's automobile sector led to a slump in local auto sales last year.
The Korea Automobile Manufacturers Association says the number of newly-registered automobiles overall fell zero-point-two-percent from the previous year to around 1-point-8-million units in 2018.
In particular, the association says the number of newly-registered domestically-manufactured cars dropped two-percent on-year... mainly due to the shutdown of GM Korea's plant in Gunsan in February last year.
The number of newly-registered imported cars, however, spiked by 10-point-8-percent compared to the previous year to mark nearly 293-thousand units.
