The Tibetan spiritual leader the Dalai Lama has called on China to learn from India.

Xi Jinping, who is in India, can learn many things from them. Sooner or later you have to solve problems not by force but by talks and understanding", he said.

The Dalai Lama who has been living in India, was asked to reschedule an event in the capital so that it would not clash with Xi's visit.

However there were massive protests outside Hyderabad House, where Xi was holding talks with PM Modi.

At least eight Tibetan protesters were detained as they were marching towards the Taj Palace Hotel where the Chinese president is staying," said a police officer.

Apart from protests at the Dhaula Khan area, scores of Tibetans staged a vociferous protest and clashed with police outside Hyderabad House, the venue for the bilateral talks between Chinese President Xi Jinping and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
