BMC to further cut water supply in Mumbai

Faced with a huge water crisis, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is planning to cut water supply to bulk consumers like five-star hotels, swimming pools, garages, gardens, among others. But the opposition corporators have alleged that the civic body is just making mere announcements and instead it should firmly go ahead with its action in the wake of acute water shortage in the city.
According to civic officials, the situation is going from bad to worse as there has been little rain in the lake catchments areas, which have received only 30 per cent rainfall so far at this time of the year. By July 9, there has been only 207 mm of rainfall in catchments areas as compared to the average 796 mm
