NewsX: INS Sindhurakshak catches fire, more than 12 fire engines sent for rescue

In a big tragedy ahead of the Independence Day Celebration a major accident has shaken up the Indian Navy. A massive fire broke out at submarine INS SindhuRakshak in Mumbai's Naval Dockyard. The accident occurred around midnight. The submarine was carrying several warheads.

Sources tell NewsX that the explosion was caused in the forward section of the submarine where torpedoes and other weapons were kept. More than 12 fire engines, which were immediately rushed to the spot, but to no avail as the submarine has sunk post the huge explosion.

18 personnel onboard are missing and those injured have been admitted in the naval hospital..
The Navy Chief has rushed to the spot and the Defence Minister, AK Antony is also expected to reach the site for a inspection.
