Mumbai: Railway fare up by Rs 2-4 from Jan 1 - NewsX

A unkind New Year gift for the Mumbaikar. Local train fares go up from today. Fares for journey of between 10 kms and 50 kms go up by by Rs. 2 for second class and Rs. 4 for first class. That translates into an additional 80 to 200 rupees a month. Mumbai's local train network falls directly under the Railways Ministry at the Centre. Rail minister Pawan Kumar Bansal has said the fare hike is vital to restore the network's financial health. But the Mumbai citizen is far from impressed.
