Narendra Modi denied permission to hold rally in Varanasi
  • 5 years ago
Narendra Modi has been denied permission for a rally tomorrow in Varanasi, from where he is contesting his first parliamentary election. His BJP complained to the Election Commission, calling the move "surprising and unacceptable".

Mr Modi, the BJP's prime ministerial candidate, was planning to address two rallies in the holy town on Thursday and also perform a "Ganga Aarti".

He has reportedly been refused permission for one of the rallies, organised in the city limits of Varanasi. Officials say he can still perform prayers on the banks of the River Ganga and address the second rally in a rural area on the outskirts of Varanasi.
