India has lodged a strong protest with China over the manhandling of an Indian diplomat in the presence of the judge and security officials in a court of Shanghai. In New Delhi the Deputy Chief of Chinese Embassy was summoned and a 'note verbal' has been handed over to the Chinese Foreign Ministry by Indian Embassy officials. The diplomat, S Balachandran was in a Chinese court in connection with the hearing of a case related to the detention of two Indians by locals. But the Deputy Chief of the Embassy called the incident a civic commercial dispute and assured of handling it properly.
