Egyptian authorities have announced the discovery of around 40 mummies including at least 10 thought to be children.
According to Egypt Today, Antiquities Minister Khaled El-Enany said Saturday that the remains were found across two Roman-era cemeteries in the Minya region.
He has been quoted as saying: "The newly discovered tombs are a familial grave which was probably for a family from the upper middle class."
Different ages and genders were said to be found and buried using a variety of methods including inside sarcophagi, in the sand, and on the floor.
In addition to the mummies, archaeologists uncovered artifacts such as pottery and examples of an ancient script called demotic handwriting, notes the Associated Press.
