US National Debt Reaches New High Under Trump At the end of 2018, the U.S. national debt was $21.974 trillion, It has increased by more than
$2 trillion dollars since
Donald Trump took office. After the 2008 financial crisis, the national debt has been rising. When Trump first took office,
the debt began to decrease. But it started to increase again
after a Republican tax cut passed
at the end of 2017. Debt could increase to $29 trillion
by 2028, according to the
