ऑस्ट्रेलिया की दूसरी पारी में भारत ने मोहम्मद शमी की घातक गेंदबाजी की बदौलत ऑस्ट्रेलिया को 243 रनों पर ढेर कर दिया, जिसके बाद भारत को जीत के लिए 287 रनों का टारगेट मिला. लक्ष्य का पीछा करने उतरी भारत की शुरुआत बेहद खराब रही और शून्य के स्कोर पर केएल राहुल को मिशेल स्टार्क ने बोल्ड कर टीम इंडिया को पहला झटका दे दिया. 13 रन के स्कोर पर हेजलवुड ने चेतेश्वर पुजारा को विकेट के पीछे कप्तान टिम पेन के हाथों कैच आउट करा दिया और भारत को दूसरा झटका भी दे दिया, फिलहाल मुरली विजय और विराट कोहली क्रीज पर हैं.
