President Moon Jae-in has admitted that,... while South Korea's economy now has solid indicators at the macro level,... indicators regarding people's livelihoods are still underperforming.

"We've yet to tackle economic polarization and the difficulties that small businesses and the self-employed face. Regions, where traditional industries such as shipbuilding, auto, and steelmaking took a hit, are suffering as well. Prosperity through inclusive growth cannot be reached without solving such problems."

In order for South Koreans to tangibly feel the economic accomplishments of this administration, President Moon said it's necessary to promptly revitalize the local economy.
He called on his Cabinet to actively support the local government, especially in terms of upgrading infrastructure, and manufacturing, as well as deregulation.
He made the remarks at a Cabinet meeting,... which for the first time since his inauguration,... was held in the administrative city of Sejong.
During his stay in the city, President Moon will also be briefed by the education and labor ministries on their 2019 policy plans.
