Payless Sold Discount Shoes for Up to $600 a Pair at Mock Event Payless took over a former Armani store in Santa Monica, CA, renamed the location 'Palessi' and stocked it with discount-priced shoes. The shoes, typically priced at $20 to $40 in Payless stores, were sold at inflated price tags of $200 to $600. 'Palessi' sold about $3,000 worth of shoes in a few hours. After the shoppers paid, the staff told them that the shoes were actually from Payless. Describing her purchase, one shopper said, "They are elegant and sophisticated."
