One-Third of U.S. Parents Not Planning on Flu Shots for Children The survey was conducted in October by C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital at the University of Michigan. The survey found that 26% of parents say their healthcare provider made a recommendation on the vaccine. Only 2% said their provider suggested that their children not receive the shot. "To me, the biggest takeaway is that there is a group of parents who look like they have a gap in expert guidance around whether kids should get flu vaccines." Sarah Clark, co-director of C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital National Poll, via CNN "The vaccine is not perfect, none of us believe it is, but it’s the best thing we have for preventing influenza." Dr. William Schaffner, Vanderbilt University School of Medicine, via CNN 79 children died of the flu last year, according to the CDC. 80% of the children who died in 2017 hadn’t received their flu shot.
