The International Atomic Energy Agency has been preparing to maintain "early level of readiness" in verifiying North Korea's denuclearization.
During high-level policy consultation in Seoul on Monday, the IAEA's Deputy Director General, Massimo Aparo... told Kang Jeong-sik,... South Korea's Deputy Minister for Multilateral and Global Affairs... that the agency has been making these efforts since last year,... to be ready when a political agreement is reached.
Aparo also referred to Seoul as an important partner, not only in the safeguard affairs, but in the peaceful use of nuclear technology.
The two sides also discussed ways to optimize the nuclear watchdog's safeguards system and to bolster their cooperation.
The deputy director general managed to meet with Seoul's nuclear envoy Lee Do-hoon behind closed doors... to discuss various matters including North Korea's nuclear program.
