Sensual fresco discovered in ancient Pompeii bedroom
  • 5 years ago
Archaeologists have discovered a new erotic fresco in the ruins of Pompeii - the ancient Italian town buried in volcanic ash from the eruption of Mount Vesuvius 2000 years ago.
It depicts a sensual scene of the Roman god Jupiter, in the form of a swan, impregnating the Spartan queen Leda.
It was painted to make it appear Leda was looking at whoever saw the fresco upon entering the bedroom in which it was hung.
The fresco was discovered Friday in a house believed to have belonged to a wealthy merchant seeking to show off his knowledge of mythology
Despite its age and Pompeii's harsh history, its colors are still remarkably vivid.
