Authorities have announced that human remains were discovered inside the Sewol-ho ferry's third floor cabin.
Officials reportedly found what appears to be a human front tooth.
The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries will send the evidence to the National Forensic Service for examination.
The discovery is the first of its kind since the government lifted the ferry to an upright position in May. The remains of five people are yet to be found.
The ill-fated Sewol ferry sank off the country's southwestern coast near Jindo island in April 2014, claiming the lives of 304 people, mostly high school students.
