IAEA urges Japan to quickly dispose of radioactive Fukushima water

The International Atomic Energy Agency has urged Japan to quickly tackle a buildup of contaminated water at its Fukushima nuclear plant.
After a week-long review, an IAEA team said Tuesday there were still massive amounts of treated but still radioactive water stored in tanks on the compound.
The experts said that was only a temporary solution and that the water must be removed urgently.
The reactors suffered meltdowns following a massive earthquake and tsunami seven years ago.
Since then there, Japanese officials are yet to agree on what to do with the radioactive water. One option is the controlled release of the water into the ocean, which nuclear experts say is safe and the only realistic option.
However, fishermen and residents oppose the proposal.
