Senior North Korean delegation to visit South Korea this week for int'l conference
  • 5 years ago
A seven-member, high-level delegation from North Korea will make a four-day visit to South Korea starting Wednesday.
They're from the North's Korea-Asia-Pacific Peace Committee... and Seoul's unification ministry approved the visit.
Their tip south of the border is primarily to attend an international conference organized by a South Korean organization and Gyeonggi-do Province... where participants from the two Koreas AND Japan discuss the forced mobilization of Koreans during Japan's colonial rule.
The delegation is drawing attention because it includes Kim Song-hye and Ri Jong-hyok,... who've been involved in North Korea-U.S. negotiations and inter-Korean discussions respectively... and raises speculation whether their visit could lead to meetings with the Seoul government.
However, the unification ministry says... it doesn't plan to hold a meeting with the North Korean officials as of now... as their visit is of a civic nature.
