President Moon's proposed joint policy consultation body to hold inaugural meeting
  • 5 years ago
A meeting of a joint policy consultative body with the rival political parties and the government is taking place at the top office today.
This is the first meeting of its kind where the leaderships of the rival political parties and members of the government have been brought together to discuss various issues including... the economy and President Moon's peace drive with North Korea.
For more on this, we have our presidential correspondent Shin Se-min on the line for us.
Se-min -- tell us more.

Right-- today's inaugural meeting is the result of an agreement reached in August between the rival parties and the Moon administration to form a joint policy consultation body.
And as we speak,... the party leaders, government officials and the president are believed to be holding their first meeting at the top office,... something that will continue into a working lunch.
During the meeting,... President Moon is likely to call for bipartisan support from the rival political parties on issues like turning the sluggish economy around and the ongoing efforts to denuclearize the Korean Peninsula.
The party leaders, in response, are sure to raise their respective stances,... especially now the National Assembly has started the process of reviewing the government's 412 billion U.S. dollar budget bill for next year.
But Ji-yoon-- the main takeaway of today's meeting,.. is joint governance between the ruling and opposition parties and the government,... just as the president initially proposed.
With the parties sharply divided over most things,... it remains to be seen if the respective sides will be able to reach consensus on some of the most pressing issues facing the country.
Ji-yoon?
