Animal Cruelty Allegations Levelled at Alabama State Fair Petting Zoo

Police in Pelham, Alabama, investigated allegations of animal cruelty at the Alabama State Fair, after a September 29 Facebook video went viral.Birmingham resident Peyton Rose attended the Alabama State Fair at Pelham’s Oak Mountain Amphitheater on September 29 and posted a video to Facebook showing a limp petting zoo goat with its head in a bowl. Rose said the animal wasn’t moving and was in the exact same spot when she returned over four hours later.Alabama State Fair organizer Mark Lovell said that the goat was alive when Rose filmed it but died later that night. Lovell claims the goat became injured when a camel fell on it earlier in the week.Pelham Police confirmed to local media on October 1 that the department closed its investigation into the incident after officers at the fair stated that all the animals since the incident had food and water and did not appear in distress.Rose said, however, she doesn’t believe the explanation. “If you’re that injured that the goat died, I mean why would they continue to let it be in the petting zoo in pain, dying? That’s even worse to me.”Rose’s clip of the goat had earned over 136,000 views at the time of writing. Credit: Peyton Rose via Storyful
