South Carolina Police Lead Drivers Evacuating Hurricane Florence on Reversed Highways

The South Carolina Highway Patrol and Department of Public Safety reversed lanes on Interstate 26, to help residents from coastal areas evacuate from the path of Hurricane Florence.South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster issued evacuation orders for all of the state’s coastal counties. To facilitate the evacuations, traffic on all lanes of I-26 will be traveling westbound.These videos, shared online on September 11, show South Carolina Highway Patrol “flush” cars leaving Columbia to Charleston, and later leading traffic from Charleston to Columbia in the reversed lane of I-26.
